- This research discusses about the representation of Feminism on film “Perempuan Berkalung Sorban”, the film told us about the struggle of a woman who was born at one of Pesantren in Java Island which identic with its patriarchy culture. It means that a man has better position than a woman. The aim or purpose of this research is to know how the representation of a woman dealing with the feminism on a film Perempuan Berkalung Sorban. The researcher used qualitative research methodology and interpretative type using semiotics analysis Roland Barthes. This research enlighten 10 scenes which became the object of the research and it can represent the existence of the feminism symbol. The collecting data was done by documenting the film “ Perempuan Berkalung Sorban”, classify the scene which has feminism meaning. It was also supported by literature review. The analysis technique was using semiotics analysis Roland Barthe, it explained about denotation meaning, connotation meaning and myth. The research result showed that the representation of feminism which exist on film Perempuan Berkalung Sorban. It is described through the struggle and bravery of a woman who wanted to have the same right and chance with a man. The patriarchy system in an environment cause rebellion for woman. The conclusion of this research is that a film “Perempean Berkalung Sorban” tells about the feminism in the patriarchy culture in Java Island. The setting is in one of the Pesantren in Java Island, but the aim or purpose is not to criticize the culture of a pesantren, but to criticize the patriarchy culture which become thinking and acting awareness in the environment of Pesantren.
