  • Quenhing is heat treatment mostly conducted by manufacture industry. The reason shows that quenching process is able to increace mechanical characteristics of material, especially hardness. Yet, material with quenching process will have brittle characteristics where there is needed further research on the influenching factors of brittle caused by quenching process. One important factors of quenching process is cooling medium and cooling rate. This researh aimed to find the influence of viscocity toward STt60 mechanical characteristics after heat treatment and quenching process. Heating process used heater furnace, while cooling process used lubricating oil with different viscocity: they are water, salt water, air and oil. The research shows that the different in lubrication viscocity for cooling process can influence hardness value of specimen. The lower of lubrication viscocity, the hardness tends to be increase and vice versa. Change on hardness caused bycooling process shows on the result during hardness examination process where it is increased. It is caused by the change of ferrit micro structure and perlit structure to martensit, which it is hard and brittle
