- Teaching media based on environment is media that already available around us and it is used as learning needs. Media that acts as teaching materials based on enviroment have been applied in the learning of classification of living things. The purpose of this study was to know media that were used as teaching materials, the quality of the media as teaching materials based on environment, and media that potential but had not been involved in teaching and learning in the classification of living things at class VII of SMPN 03 Batu. This research was a descriptive research with a qualitative approach and used interview, observation and documentation techniques. The results of this research showed that media as teaching materials based on environment that used in SMPN 03 Batu were earthworms, spiders, and wood fungi. Several media that has the potential but have not been involved in teaching and learning in the classification of living things such as mosses, ferns, orchids, mangoes, various types of plants, ants, fish, grasshoppers, water, stone, wood, longan, guava, cashew, pine and cypress. From the results of the research, it can be concluded that, earthworms and wood mushrooms that used were categorized as proper media and spider is catogarized as suficient media.
