- Writing is one of the important skills for students it can improves student’s academic perfomance in delivering ideas, thoughts and even felings in a word or sentences. Writing skill require more capabilities than other language skill because it requaires the students to understand the spelling and punctuation, the sentence structure, the vocabulary and the paragraph development and also how to use appropriate grammar. However, many students still make a lot of errors in writing especially in writing descriptive text. They usually do this because they do not understand the concept of sentence structure and do not use tenses in correct way. The purposes of the research were to get the information kind of grammatical errors in writing descriptive text, to get the causes of error and to gt the possible solution of these errors. The research design used in this research was a descriptive qualitative reseach. The subject of this research was eight-grade students. Document and interview were used to collect and analyzed the data. The result of this research showed that there are four types of errors in writing such as error of omission, error of addition, error of misformation, and disordering. In discussion, the most errors in writing descriptive text made by eight-grade students misformation errors and omission errors. The causes of these errors were the students confused to choose the appropriate class of word the students had lack of vocabulary. When the researcher compared the result of documents, the students did not really understand the structures of the sentence. Meanwhile, there some possible solutions to reduce these errors in teaching and learning process such as the teacher has to give interesting topics, the teacher should give exercises regularly, the teacher should explain more about grammar, and the teacher has to pay attention to the student’s errors.
