  • Mangrove forest is an ecosystem that has an important role in terms of ecological and socio-economic aspects. Mangrove forest is a type of forest that is overgrown with mangrove tree which is typically found along the coast or estuary river and are influenced ups and downs of the sea. Mangrove forests have a dual function and a very important link to maintain the balance of the biological cycle in a waters. The economic function of mangrove forests are providing wood, leaves as raw material for medicines and others. Ecological functions provides of nutrients for aquatic biota, spawning sites and care for various types of biota, abrasion restraints, typhoon rages, and tsunamis, waste absorber, prevention of sea water intrusion and so on. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition of mangrove forests in Penunggul Village, Nguling District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java and to determine the utilization of mangrove forests by the community in Penunggul Village, Nguling District, Pasuruan, East Java. This research was conducted from June to July 2017 in the mangrove forest in Penunggul Village, Nguling District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. The results of this study is the vegetation of mangrove forests found in Penunggul Village, Nguling District, Pasuruan Regency, there are 3 types of mangroves. The condition of the mangrove forest in Penunggul Village has vegetation from the types of fire mangrove Avicennia sp and Rhizophora sp and for the utilization of the Penunggul Village Mangrove Forest Ecosystem in the form of mangrove nurseries, other community activities such as catching mangrove crabs, fishing and educating for research and tourism purposes.
