- Teaching preparation is the teacher's effort in preparing teaching before taking action in learning activities, which are related to the formation of basic competencies. Therefore, teaching preparation is an important part needed by the teacher in supporting the teaching and learning process. This study aims to investigate how teaching preparation of English teachers at SMP Negeri 18 Malang. This study describes teaching preparation of English teachers at SMPN 18 Malang. It intends to gain the procedures of teaching preparation of English teachers at SMP Negeri 18 Malang. In this study, the researcher used qualitative methods to obtain the data of teaching preparation. In addition, the subjects were English teachers at SMP Negeri 18 Malang. Meanwhile, two English teachers were chosen as subjects. After analyzing the data, four teaching preparation procedures were obtained from two English teachers. Furthermore, four procedures obtained from two English teachers are in line with the ten procedures that have been analysed, those are; 1) designing lesson plans is in line with student needs, the goals student needs, and teaching objectives; 2) developing teaching materials is in line with choosing materials for student; 3) applying teaching techniques is in line with language and skill of teacher and sequence of language and skill of teacher; and 4) making teaching assessments is in line with test task, reflection, evaluation, and revision.
