- Apples (Malus sylvestris Mill) are annual plants favored by the public. In 2010 to 2014 apple production increased, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Directorate General of Horticulture (2015) the development of apple production in Indonesia from 2010 amounted to 190,069 tons and in 2014 amounted to 242,915 tons, where the increase in apple production in Indonesia was around 27.8%. Development of apple varieties can be done by embryo culture techniques and can be grown directly into root induction. Induction of apple root subculture is needed to regulate growth to stimulate the growth of root length and desired number of roots. Naphtalena Acetic Acid (NAA) can stimulate root growth in in vitro culture media. This study examined the effect of various combinations of NAA growth regulators on two apple varieties in vitro. This study uses Granny Smith and Red Delicious varieties to assess the effect of various concentrations of the best apple varieties in in vitro culture on root induction. The implementation of this study used a Factorial Randomized Group Design (RBD) with the first factor being variety (V), and the second factor was the concentration of NAA (N) growth regulator. All treatments were repeated 3 times. The data obtained were analyzed for variance and tested the real appeal (BNJ) level of 5%. The results of this study with the addition of NAA concentrations showed a significant effect on the parameters of the number of shoots aged 5-6 MST with concentrations of 1 mg/l NAA and 0 mg/l NAA on the Red Delicious variety, concentration of 2 mg/l NAA showed the best results on the growth of root length and the number of roots for rooting induction, besides that the Red Delicious variety showed the best results for rooting induction.
