  • This study aims to improve problem solving and understanding the concept of junior high school students by applying the problem based learning model with mind mapping strategy in mathematics learning. The application of the problem based learning model with the mind mapping strategy was carried out in four meetings, the subject of the research was class VIII B of SMP Negeri 3 Batu which amounted to 30 students. Data collection techniques use RPP and tests. The results showed that there was an increase in students' problem solving ability and concept understanding, problem solving as much as 80.56 and categorized as good, understanding the concept of 83.33 and categorized as good. From this study concluded that the application of problem based learning learning model with mind mapping strategy can improve problem solving skills and understanding of students' concepts in learning mathematics.
