- Understanding of mathematical communication concepts and abilities must be inculcated in students so that students can better understand the material found by themselves and be able to communicate mathematically. One of the efforts to develop understanding of mathematical concepts and communication ability is to use the Learning Cycle 6E learning model that provides opportunities for students to play a direct role in finding number pattern material.Based on this, the research was carried out with the aim of describing the concept understanding and mathematical communication ability using the 6E Learning Cycle learning model. Quantitative descriptive was used in this research. The subjects of this study were students of MTS Muhammadiyah 7 Gresik. The data collection techniques was in the form of tests. Data analysis techniques used scoring guidelines and percentage understanding of students' mathematical concepts and communication skills.The results of the study showed that indicators restated a concept to the highest category with 85.96% and indicators of various forms of mathematical representation with enough categories with a value of 68.42% in the ability to understand concepts.Meanwhile, the indicator explained the ideas and situations in writing the highest category in mathematical communication was 81.87%.
