- Dr. Zakir Naik is a da’i comes from India that make us of communication technology development as a media propagation of da’wah. Through his youtube account @Dr.Zakirnaik, he spreads the teaching of Islam in the form of debates attended by many people from various religious elements. This study aims to determine the meaning of inter-religious viewers about Dr. Zakir Naik da’wah which is done through youtube as a medium of his da’wah. This study used descriptive qualitative approach type using reception studies method. Subjects in this study are people who are non-muslims in Malang City. Taken by using purposive sampling technique, so get 5 research subject with criterion determined by researcher. Researcher used interviews in data collection techniques. Whereas for data analysis techniques using interactive analysis model Miles and Huberman. Researcher test the validity of the data by checking through the discussion use theory of encoding/ decoding that put forward by Stuart Hall. The result of the research shows that the meaning of audiences about da'wah by Dr. Zakir Naik through youtube is different. In the position of the dominant hegemonic, da'wah through youtube performed by Dr. Zakir Naik is interpreted as effective, efficient and modern. Giving samples around the subject make them as the audiences understand the content of his da'wah. While in the position of negotiated reading, the way of Dr. Zakir Naik da'wah is good, but if not accompanied by attitude of open minded from audiences then will become trigger of conflict. In the opposition the subjects admitted to not getting a benefit after watching the Dr. Zakir Naik da'wah and that will lead to inter-religious conflict. The conclusion of this research is the audience giving different meaning to the da'wah they get (from video of Dr. Zakir Naik da’wah). Some agree or in line with the dakwah delivered by Dr. Zakir Naik. Some of them are not in line with the preaching delivered, but have their own views of the da'wah they get. The interpretation of each research subject is much dependent on their background. Both from the association, their surrounding environment such as religion, family, education, and other factors that influence the thinking of research subjects.
