- This research base on an intolerant issue which developing in UKM KINE Klub University of Muhammadiyah Malang community and a peace messages brings by a song titled Surefire by a Hollywood singer, John Legend, and to find how reception of this issue by UKM KINE Klub member related on the videoclip and song. This research is expected to be a reflection and a general description of the audience's reception to the videoclip This research used an receptions study analysis, where each individual has an own reception to a message received, its based on age, educational level, and social background. Each research subject has their reception stage of knowledge, observation, understanding, and assessment of a message received. This research uses a qualitative research approach with descriptive research type. Technique of collecting data using interview method. Data analysis techniques using qualitative data analysis techniques, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The validity test of data used is source triangulation. Place of research is in KINE UMM Club office, SC Building 3rd floor, in January 2018. The technique of determining the subject using purposive sampling technique with eight people chose as a sample or recipient. The reception of UKM KINE UMM Club members is related to the messages reception of tolerance and peace in the Surefire videoklip by John Legend. UKM KINE Club UMM members think that although the video clip is loaded with a message of tolerance and peace, but the Muslim woman in the videoklip still behaves inappropriately with her identity as a Muslim. To sum up the research, it can be concluded that the meaning made by members of Club UMM KINE is in the Hegemonic Dominant Position, where members receive messages of tolerance and peace from the video clip. Research subjects which in the Negotiated Reading and Oppositional reading position are each amount to one person. KINE Klub UMM members understand well the stages of knowledge, observation, understanding and assessment of the videoclip.
