- This study is based on the concerns of researchers in seeing mass media nowadays, especially magazines. The current study focused on American magazine that also published in Indonesia, entitled “Men’s Health Indonesia”. This magazine presents about men’s health, it is also provides a lot of women illustration photos with minimum dressed and vulgar pose. Therefore, the aim of this research is to know “how women are placed in men’s magazine based on denotation meaning and myth of women illustration photos in Men’s Health Indonesia magazine”. Researcher used semiotics analysis of Roland Barthes to interpret the meaning of denotation, connotation and myths contained Men’s Health magazine in dating rubric. Denotation meaning is first level meaning which is objective. Meanwhile connotative meaning refers to culture value and myth is how culture understands aspects of reality or natural phenomena The results of the study obtained by the researchers seeing at the illustrations photos which is provided by Men's Health magazine is there are two kinds of women conditions. The former is women have masculine characteristic, they could stand alone and they become masculine women. The latter is women that rely on men who accompany them even their level is lower than men. In other hand, men are dominating than women.
