  • This study aims to determine the improvement of students' mathematical critical and creative thinking skills between those using problem-based learning models and direct learning models, knowing students' attitudes toward problem-based learning models and knowing the associations between students' attitudes toward problem-based learning models with capacity building critical thinking of students after a problem-based learning model is given. The population in this study is all PGRI 1 Lawang junior high school students in class VII. The instrument used in this study includes test questions of students 'critical thinking skills and interviews to determine students' attitudes toward Problem-based learning models. Based on the results of the test it can be concluded that the improvement of students 'critical thinking abilities in learning to apply problem-based learning models is better than the improvement of students' critical thinking skills who in their learning apply direct learning models. Students' attitude towards the application of problem-based learning models shows a positive attitude. The association between students 'attitudes on the application of problem-based learning models and the improvement of students' mathematical critical and creative thinking skills showed strong associations.
