  • Background: In accordance with life expectancy increases, people will have possibility to get degenerative disease as hypertension. The change of cardiovascular can cause the improvement of blood pressure which leads to hypertension on elderly. One method that can be done in reducing the level of hypertension is using slow deep breathing exercise. Furthermore, this research is aimed to investigate the effect of slow deep breathing towards blood pressure reduction on elderly in Pandanrejo Village, Pagak District, Malang Regency. Research Methodology: This research employed Pre-experimental with one group pretest post-test design that involved 35 respondents that was taken by using purposive sampling as the sample collection technique. Latterly, the collected data was analyzed by using Wilcoxon test. Findings: The analysis result of doing slow deep breathing intervention during 5-10 minutes in a day during 2 weeks as well as the Wilcoxon test using a case group was resulting significant value on the reduction of blood pressure with the value of sig.(2-tailed) = 0,000 or p<0,05, the value of systolic Z -5,813 and the value of diastolic -5,657. The significance value of Zcount and Ztable on the calculation result showed that H1 was accepted which meant that there is an effect of slow deep breathing towards blood pressure reduction on elderly in Pandanrejo Village, Pagak District, Malang Regency. Discussion: Slow deep breathing is a respiratory technique that gives positive effect to control slow and deep breathing, it also stimulates autonomic nerve which is impacted to the reduction of sympathetic nerve response and led to the reduction of bodily activity. Thus, the body will experience relaxation and reduction of metabolic activity which causes a relaxing effect. Conclusion: There was an effect on the slow deep breathing towards blood pressure reduction on elderly in Pandanrejo Village, Pagak District, Malang Regency.
