- It is undeniable that film is the most effective information bridge to convey a message. Because it displays not only in an audio or visual. But it covers both. No wonder the film can have a big impact on the audience. Besides being able to give an impact/influence the film can also bring up different response. And also raises a controversy. Speaking of controversy, not all films have always been controversial in society. Only certain films that carry sensitive themes and meanings are usually a controversy. An example is the documentary film by Daniel Rudi Hariyanto entitled Prison and Paradise. In this film why is it a controversy because this film is about religion and the perpetrators of acts of terrorism in Bali. So the purpose of the research was to find out the meaning of the film Prison and Paradise directed by Daniel Rudi Hariyanto for members of KINE Club of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The theoretical approach used in this research is the response theory is actually focused on the opposition and the audience's negotiation of the media. This research is certainly to find out the extent of the interpretation and meaning of the audience in media texts. The results showed if audience response of the film Prison and Paradise directed by Daniel Rudi Haryanto for KINE Club members included a dominant (or 'hegemonic') reading, in which the audience was in line with the values in the Prison and Paradise film, attitudes, beliefs and assumptions which is shown transparently in the film Prison and Paradise, like the filmmaker not only displays responses from one point of view but from several different corners of the field. Whereas in the negotiated reading aspect, it can be seen in the responses regarding the Prison and Paradise film that is right. It's just that the knowledge and understanding of the audience are still needed so as not to get caught up in the doctrine in the film. Oppositional (‘counter-hegemonic’) reading, seen in the refusal of KINE Club members regarding the Prison and Paradise film. As in the statement of the resource persons who abuse jihad and the statements of the brains of the main perpetrators or perpetrators of Bali bombs are dangerous, they feel that acts of. The implication of this research is that the Prison and Paradise documentary is expected to open up new insights to the audience that not only is the victim's indication of the dead / injured. But it also came from the bombers themselves. Where the perpetrators' families also got a negative stigma and also stamped terrorists in society. Thus the researcherhopes that society can take moral values, be able to see and draw conclusions from other perspectives in a film.
