- Communication is the most essential thing in human relations and in particular the relationship of interpersonal communication in the family so as not to make a dispute with each other, in fact family disputes can be minimized by husband and wife alone, just how the couple can resolve themselves in a family or even with legal assistance. One interesting phenomenon is the single parent. Based on observations made during the pre-study, researchers obtained data on the number of divorce / divorce in sub-districts in the city of Madiun in January to October 2017, the sub-districts with the highest cases of divorce were in the Geger sub-district compared to 14 other sub-districts in Madiun district. This study aims to determine interpersonal communication by single parent parents to children in forming self-concept. This study uses qualitative methods referring to intrinstic case studies carried out because of the interest or concern of researchers in a particular case, namely interpersonal communication between single parent parents single parents and children Based on data processing, the researcher concluded that the first thing to do is that single parent mothers cannot fully provide information that is open to their children. Furthermore, in instilling a positive attitude Mother did not limit the meeting of children with her father because of course it was still understood as the right of the child and ex-husband. The third phase is to show the similarity this is done by the mother by giving a sense of comfort and always there so that the child can replace the nature of the father through his mother. Empaty's attitude is shown by fulfilling all the needs of her children even though it must meet their father or ex-husband. The supportive attitude is given by the mother to her child by observing and paying attention to their children's daily activities or activities.
