  • Background: Primary Dysmenorrhea is one of the gynecological problems that often experienced by adolescence women so it is very disturbing the activities during the occurrence of menstruation. This Dysmenorrhea is due to an imbalance of progesterone hormone in the blood that causes the increase of prostaglandin hormone resulting excessive and prolonged contractions in the uterus. The purpose of this research was to find out the effect comparison of giving Abdominal Stretching Exercise before and during the menstrual period in reducing primary dysmenorrhea pain on the student in Rusunawa (rental flat for the student) at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The result of the Preliminary study in Rusunawa UMM with 247 population obtained observation result in the form of an interview with 8 out of 10 people experiencing dysmenorrhea. Research Method: Research design used in this research was Quasi-Experimental with Two Group Pretest-Posttest design approach. This research was conducted on January up to March 2018. The respondents in this research were students in Rusunawa at UMM. Data analysis used was Paired T-Test by using application SPSS 16 Version. Result: calculation result of Paired T-Test by using SPSS 16 Version with probability (sig. 2 tailed) showed 0.02 < 0.005 and T count 3.246 and > T table 1.663 then H1 was accepted, so, the results obtained are Abdominal Stretching Exercise can reduce primary dysmenorrhea pain on Student Rusunawa UMM. Conclusion: There is an effect of difference after giving Abdominal Stretching Exercise before and during the menstrual period in reducing primary dysmenorrhea pain on students in Rusunawa at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
