  • The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe mathematical connection process in solving problems based on students' mathematics and gender ability. The components of mathematical connections used in this study are the relationship between mathematical concepts, the relationship of mathematics with other sciences, and the relationship of mathematics with everyday life. This research is descriptive qualitative research. Subjects in this study were six students who were taken according to the test results of mathematics ability with high, medium, and low category. Each category of mathematical ability consists of one male and one female student. Mathematical connection tests and interviews were given to six subjects to obtain mathematical connection process data. Researchers do time triangulation to get credible data. Data were analyzed by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that male students with high mathematical ability were more mathematically connected than male students with moderate and low math skills. Highly mathematical male students perform the three mathematical connections at the stage of understanding the problem and implementing the settlement plan. Male students with moderate and low mathematical skills perform all three mathematical connections in carrying out the settlement plan only. Female students with high mathematical skills are able to perform all three components of mathematical connections at the four stages of problem solving completely and regularly. Female students with mathematical skills are capable of performing all three components of a mathematical connection at the stage of understanding problems, devising plans, and executing plans. Female students with low math skills are only able to perform one component of the connection is at the stage of understanding the problem and plan.
