- In the 21st century, it demands for variety skills must be mastered by someone, one of them is critical thinking skills. Based on the result of previous study stated that critical thinking skills of junior high school students is still low. One way to improve critical thinking skills is to repair the learning process by applying model and method that orient students to think critically, such as problem based learning model combined with mind mapping. This study aims to determine the influence of problem based learning model combined by mind mapping on critical thinking skills. This study was carried out three Junior high school in Batu including SMP N 1 Batu, SMP N 2 Batu, and SMP N 4 Batu in IX grade students. This study was conducted by means of quasi experiment by using Nonequivalent Control Group Design which consist of control group and experimental group that did not choice randomly. The data analysis used Anakova with conducted by pretest and posttest. The prerequisite test for normality uses kolmogorov smirnov, homogeneity test with levene test. As the result of the study, there were differences between experimental group and control group with significance value 0,000 <0,05. Based on the average results of the posttest and pretest scores, the experimental group was 9.24% higher than the critical thinking ability of the control group.
