- Background : Body Mass Index (BMI) is an illustration to find out a person's nutritional status that can be assessed through height and weight, the importance of the elderly in paying attention to BMI will reduce musculoskeletal complaints which are often experienced by one of them is low back pain because when BMI tends to be high it will create a burden the body increases so that there will be pressure on the pinched nerve structure because the biomechanics of the lumbar spine changes at the point of weight by compensating for changes in body position and will cause pain. Low back pain is pain that is felt in the lower part of theae to the lower gluteus fold, which is usually in the lumbo-sacral area, pain radiates to the legs and feet. Aim : To find out the relationship of body mass index with the potential of low back pain in patients at Dinoyo Health Center Malang City. Research Method : The study design was cross sectional using purposive sampling design. The study population was patients in the Dinoyo Health Center Malang City. A total sample of 70 respondents including inclusion and exclusion. Data analysis test using Chi Square Test. Results and Discussion : Based on the results of the Chi Square Test shows that the body mass index (BMI) and the potential for low back pain get a significant value of 0.000 (p <0.05) then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Conclusion : There is a correlation between body mass index (BMI) and the potential of low back pain in patients in Dinoyo Health Center Malang City.
