  • The fact that during lessons during art and culture, students only use thematic textbooks without other reference books and make cultural art underestimated, also less attention, so it needs an effort to instill the value of cultural arts in Indonesia so that they are not lost by time. This study aims to remind us of the importance of our own culture. This study uses the development of a special companion book for SBDP subjects as an effort to instill the value of cultural arts in Indonesia so that they will not become extinct by time. This study uses a type of development research. As a source of data, selected grade 5 students at SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang totaling 22 students. This research was conducted in two stages, the small group trial stage and the large group trial stage. The results obtained, it was proven that the companion textbooks on the theme 8 subtheme 2 class 5 elementary school can be said to be very valid by some validators with the percentage obtained from the validation of teaching materials experts for the first validation got a percentage of 87.5%, validation of the second teaching material percentage of 93.05%, validation of the first material expert received a percentage of 80%, validation of the second material expert produced a percentage of 85%, validation of learning experts resulted in 90%, and the average response of students in small group trials was 84.3% and test try the large group to get 82.85%, so it can be concluded that the companion textbooks developed in theme 8 sub-theme 2 class 5 can be used as teaching materials that support the SBDP learning process in grade 5 Jatimulyo 1 State Elementary School in Malang. The results of this study, it is recommended to be used as a learning resource other than student books in order to support learning success.
