  • Assessment is a complex and systematic activity to recognize the condition of students especially children with special needs so that their potential is known so that they can be developed properly. The purpose of this study is; 1) Knowing how the teacher conducts an assessment of reading the simple words of the mentally disabled child of SDN Tlekung 01 2) Knowing the instrument used by the teacher in assessing reading the simple words of being mentally disabled in SDN Tlekung 01. This type of qualitative research is intended to describe social phenomena that occur from a corner or participant perspective. In this study does not involve calculation, the results obtained in the form of data in the form of written words. The data analysis technique used to find out how the teacher conducted an assessment of reading the simple words of the mentally disabled child was SDN Tlekung 01. In general, the data obtained were analyzed through qualitative descriptive. Based on the results of the research and discussion that has been done, the conclusions of the research results are the way the teacher conducts an assessment of reading the simple words of the mentally disabled child SDN Tlekung 01, namely by providing understanding in an effort to support the learning process carried out. Efforts are made namely in the implementation of learning mentally retarded children in inclusive schools before carrying out learning children with special needs mental retardation, classroom teachers in inclusive schools first arrange learning plans, teachers use time efficiently and teachers are responsive in providing assistance and teachers are responsive in providing assistance seen when teachers often sit near mentally retarded children when providing assistance. The instrument used by the teacher in conducting an assessment of reading the simple words of being mentally disabled is at SDN Tlekung 01, that is by using an exercise book reading two likes.
