- This research dealt with the cultural construction of folk songs named Lingsir Wengi and Boneka Abdi on Indonesian horror film. In this research, the researcher found that there were the use of folk songs in the film. Based on the reason, the researcher took 2 films that had the same phenomenon in order to reveal how could those songs successfully considered or constructed as spirit caller song by public. Furthermore, the aim of this research was to investigate cultural construction of folk songs named Lingsir Wengi and Boneka Abdi on Indonesians horror film named Kuntilanak : The Chanting and Danur : I Can See The Ghost. This research employed semiotics method as an analysis method, while the approach in this research was using qualitative interpretive approach. The semiotics theory applied in this research was using Roland Barthes’s theory. In semiotics analysis, the instrument applied was song element table and work map table of Roland Barthes. Besides, the data source in this research was involving scene pieces containing Lingsir Wengi and Boneka Abdi song in the film and reading sources (books, journal, articles). In the analysis technique, the researcher used Roland Barthes's Semiotic analysis model related to denotation, connotation and myth. The conclusion showed that the cultural construction of Lingsir Wengi and Boneka Abdi songs was done by emphasizing one of the lyrics is in accordance with visual depiction which was the inclusion of a subtle spirit on a character as well as its existence around the main character. Those reasons could lead to the cult if Lingsir Wengi and Boneka Abdi songs really had high magical powers to be able to call a subtle spirit.
