- This research is based on the researcher's views about the intercultural communication that often occur in tourist areas, especially when the process of buying and selling with the local sellers happens. In intercultural communication, there is always the anxiety and uncertainty which is the result of these communication barriers. The purpose of this research is to identify the management of anxiety and uncertainty in the intercultural communication between international consumers and the local sellers. In this research, the researcher used intercultural communication approaches with the anxiety and uncertainty management theories from Gudykunst. The research method here used the qualitative research approach with descriptive type. Five foreign tourists became the research subjects, selected based on purposive sampling technique with the criteria set by the researcher. The collected data were coming from interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis techniques applied the interactive model from Miles and Huberman with validity tests using triangulation of data sources. The researcher focused the research based on the factors that cause anxiety and uncertainty in intercultural communication. Therefore, the results of this research are all subjects have their own ways of managing anxiety and uncertainty when communicating with local sellers. The efforts carried out by the subject in managing the matter conclude into 4 things, namely, self-disclosure, interacting motivations, tolerance for ambiguity, and ethical attitude in communicating.
