- A reasoning ability is very needed by the students in understanding the mathematics material or concepts. The difference level of students’ understanding is very influential on the students mathematical reasoning ability; thus, the researcher is interested to investigate the students’ mathematical reasoning ability in quadratic function material based on the APOS theory. The research this to knowing how students' mathematical reasoning ability in quadratic function based on the level of APOS theory. This research was a descriptive qualitative research with 30 students as the research subjects, in which 6 students were selected to represent for each students’ understanding level. The mathematical reasoning ability was excavated through the integrated interview on the written test results. From the data analysis results, it obtained on the analysis stage that the students’ mathematical reasoning ability in the high understanding level of the APOS theory on quadratic function material was good. The students’ mathematical reasoning ability in the medium understanding level of the APOS theory on quadratic function material in the analysis stage was quite good. The students’ mathematical reasoning ability in the low understanding level of the APOS theory on quadratic function material in the analysis stage was less good.
