Social and public welfare</subject><description>The social welfare of the elderly is an action to fulfill the needs of the society, especially the elderly who can not perform their social function by providing assistance and sponsorship services.
This study aims to determine the efforts to improve the social welfare of the elderly based on community participation and supporting and inhibiting factors in an effort to improve the social welfare of the elderly. The research method is descriptive qualitative method and data collection technique using observation, interview and documentation by involving 16 research subjects including 8 Posyandu cadres and 8 elderly with purposive sampling. Techniques used as data analysis are data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing. This research was conducted in Tlekung Village, Junrejo Sub-District, Batu City.
The results of research include community participation is based on the reasons people want to improve the standard of living and social welfare of the elderly. Efforts in improving social welfare elderly community participation consists of health services, diversity and social activities. The benefits of community participation trigger meaningful activities for the elderly, the elderly harmonious relationship with the environment, the increase in the implementation of worship, the accessibility of health services for the elderly, and sharing with others. Supporting factors in efforts to improve social welfare of the elderly based on community participation is the enthusiasm and spirit of the elderly to follow every activity and support from the family in helping the elderly to enjoy their old age with peace and fun.
