- A transportation is a way of transferring people and goods from one place to another by using a vehicle. The development of public transportation has a long history, from the creation of the facilities that are only used for close travel until the emergence with more capacity used to further travel fast. In this modern era, an online-based transportation system or application is made in order to facilitate people to find a practical, cheap, and efficient transportation only by using a smartphone. This causes only a few people choose to use conventional transportation. This study aimed to determine the impact of the welfare of the city's public transportation drivers with the existence of online transportation in Malang and to know the efforts of the drivers towards the decrease of the income due to the online transportation. This research used qualitative method with descriptive type. The research was conducted at Arjosari station of Malang, East Java. The subject of this research was the public transportation driver of city lane. The results of this study illustrated that the impact caused by the existence of online transportation made the drivers’ income decreased by 50%. In addition, the factor affected the declining income of the drivers was one of the highest growth of vehicles in Malang such as motorcycles.Moreover, the number of the transportation made the income of the drivers equal. The effort made by the drivers to meet the needs of the family was getting chartered from others. In addition, the pressure or encouragement that one member of their family who must work was their wives or children to be able to meet the needs of life.
