- Social media use at this time is a necessity for everyone, in daily activities many people cannot separated from social media, for some people, who use social media is very important, which is usually used as a means to interact, communicate, share information even used to leave out stress, but at this time some people do not realize that from the use of social media can significantly affect a person's personality. This study aims to determine the effect of personality based on the Big five of personality on the use of social media with quantitative correlational research types. The research subjects in this study were 269 students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang using purposive sampling. The data collection it self uses the Big Five Inventory (BFI) scale and social networking time use scale (SONTUS), then analyzed using simple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that there is an also an influence between the Big five personality on the use of social media .
