- Historically, Kyai contributed greatly in fighting over Indonesia from colonialism and was involved in establishing a unitary state of the Republic Indonesia. Now a days, Kyai is confronted with the reality of political choices and becomes a tool to gather mass supporters in political contestation, such as legislative elections, regents, governors and presidents. Kyai devided into two at East Java governor election 2018, that is political kyai and traditional kyai. The process of political exchange, kyai is organized using religious organizations. Management of regional organization directs branchs staff to one vote in the regional head election. Giving support to candidate pair because there is a comparable and beneficial exchange between two parties. Macro-scale political exchange through recitations and educational institutions while micro scales occur between individuals by paying attention to values in social groups.
