  • Work accident are things that need consideration by the world of work, both in the formal and informal sectors. Because of the informal sector is a labor intensive job and lack the support and recognition both from the government. Sulfur miners were employed informal sector mining companies. It is also important for maintaining safety according to data (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources) in 2014 there were 48 minor injuries, 78 people suffered severe injuries, and 32 people died. Ijen Crater is one of the central sulfur mines in Indonesia are often injured at work, it happens because due to lack of attention to safety. Work accidents miners in Ijen crater becomes interesting for research. The title of this research is The Rasionality of Work Accidents among Sulfur Miners Ijen Crater. The problem is how the rationality of work accidents among sulfur miners in Ijen Crater. The purpose of this study was to determine the rationality of work accidents among sulfur miners in the Ijen Crater This research used qualitative descriptive phenomenology methods. Ijen crater research sites in the village district of Banyuwangi. Data collection technique used in depth interview, observation and documentation. Mechanical determination of research subjects using purposive sampling. The validity of the data using triangulation techniques. The analysis in this study using Max Weber's concept of rationality. These results indicate that the rationality of work accidents on the Ijen crater sulfur miners use the destination rationality (instrumental), the relevance of the concept of rationality action by Max Weber, even though sulfur miners been injured at work, their goal remains to work as a miner to make ends meet.
