- Background: The ethanol extract of marigold flowers contains lutein that has a function as an antioxidant. Therefore, this cream preparations are made as antioxidants. Objective: To determine the physical and chemical characteristics of cream preparations with the several levels variations such as F1 (0.5%), F2 (1%), and F3 (2%), the stability of marigold flower ethanol cream extract, and the antioxidant effectiveness in ethanol extract of marigold flowers and in cream preparations. Methods: DPPH test, freeze-thaw stability testing for 6 cycles, organoleptic test, emulsion type test, pH test, viscosity test, and spreadability test were analysed using one-way ANOVA statistical test method. Results and Conclusions: Cream of ethanol extract of marigold flowers on all formulas have a soft, yellow texture and has a special scent of marigold flowers with the results of O/W emulsion type, the results of statistical tests with one-way ANOVA method it showed that the pH (7,52-7,65) have a significant difference in F1 and F3. The results of viscosity (13000-14166,67cPs) do not have significant differences between formulas. The readability test (0,02-0,03) has no significant difference between formulas. Freeze-thaw testing for 6 cycles shows that there is a colour change in the cream. The ethanol extract of the marigold flower has an IC50 value of 31.87 ppm, it can be concluded that there is an effectiveness of antioxidant which is very active. The marigold flower ethanol extract cream obtained an average IC50 value in F1 (5847.38 ppm), F2 (2319.85 ppm), F3 (1268.16 ppm), it showed that the cream was an inactive antioxidant cream.
