  • Background : Brotowali stem contains many coumpounds to be effective to treat various diseases. One of the chemical compounds that has been identified actively is terpenoids that have activity as an antidiabet. Therefore, to increase the acceptability of this plant, it is necessary to develop the products of Brotowali into tablet. Objective : This study aims is to determine the effects of gelatin with the concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3% as a binding agent on the physical quality of brotowali stem extract tablets, and to determine the optimum concentrations of gelatin that can meet the required quality. Metode : The extract was made by utilizing ultrasonic maceration method using ethanol 96% as the solvent. Furthermore, the tablet was made by using wet granulation method utilizing gelatin as the binding agent. The physical quality tests that cover the hardness, frability and disintegration time were then conducted. After that, the data were statistically analyzed. Result and Conclusion: The study result noted that the increase of Gelatin concentrations increased the hardness and disintegration time but decreased the frability. The statistical analysis result indicated that there was significant difference in the hardness and disintegration time while in the frability of tablet there was significant difference in the formula with 1% (F2) and 3% (F4). Gelatin with the concentration of 2% (F3) was the optimum concentration to produce tablets with the required physical quality.
