  • Social stigma is the act of providing a social label that purpose is to separate or discredit a person or group of people with a stamp or a bad view with practice. Stigma leads to discrimination and degrading actions of others that are not acknowledging or not seeking to fulfill the basic rights of individuals or groups as they are also dignified human beings. This study aims to describe the form of social stigma for children with special needs and strategy of parents in resolve the social stigma. In this research use qualitative approach with descriptive method. This research is located in Lembaga Yayasan Pembinaan anak cacat Kota Malang. The subjects of this study are parents who have children with special needs with the number of informants 4 people, as well as data collection by way of observation and interview. For data analysis use data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results of this study illustrate that the form of social stigma given to children with special needs is very varied. There are those who assume the child needs are children who are despicable, crazy, idiots and other rough terms. While the strategy of parents in resolve social stigma is in two ways that is, social support and build public awareness. Social support here is the community provides support to parents, but who provide support are family and neighbors around. And to build public awareness here is that people understand related to the problems faced by children with special needs.
