  • Background : Toothpaste is a formula that can be used to prevent tooth decay. Toothpaste with the addition of ginger essential oil has potential as an antibacterial. In forming a good toothpaste formulation is required abrasive substances as a cleaning agent. Calcium carbonate is an abrasive substanes which can improve the quality of the toothpaste formulation so it acceptable to the market. Purposes : This study was conducted to determine the level of calcium carbonate percentage (50%, 60%, and 70%) that can provide chemical physics characteristics (pH, foam formation, scattering, homogeneity, viscosity), stability and acceptability best toothpaste preparation formula with a calcium carbonate abrasive substance. Method : In this study the experiment divide in to three formula base on calcium carbonate percentage (50%, 60%, and 70%). The formula is evaluated the calcium carbonat level by organoleptis test, homogeneity, viscosity, dispersion, pH, stability at various temperature and hedonic test (acceptability). The results were analyzed using One-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey HSD to show a significant difference. Result and Conclusion : The results of organoleptic examination of all formulas indicate that they have Mint Red Cherry scent, and a light blue colour. Moreover, texture of the formulas are (FI) slightly thick, (FII) thick, (FIII) very thick. The statistical analysis used in this study is One-way ANOVA test which shows that there are significant differences for pH evaluation, viscosity, foam formation, and stability. Furthermore, there is no differences in spread ability. On the evaluation of galangal essential oil toothpaste acceptability, 60% of calcium carbonate level has the criteria to be selected from all three formulas.
