PENGARUH TABATA WORKOUT TERHADAP PENURUNAN P ERS ENTAS E LEMAK TUB UH PADA MAHAS I SWA FISIOTERAPI UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH MALANG DENGAN KATEGORI IMT OVERWEIGHT

- Background : Overweight are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in the body. The fundamental cause of overweight is an energy imbalance between calories consumed and calories expended. The body fat percentage is the total mass of fat divided by total body mass. Increasing body fat brings a risk of various diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes mellitus. One of ways to decrease the body fat percentage is by doing tabata workout. Tabata workout is the shortest high intensity interval training format that can be used to increase both aerobic and anaerobic fitness, promote fat loss, and even improve blood pressure. Method : This research used quasi experiment methods with pretest-posttest, non equivalent control group design. Research subject is overweight students of physiotherapy department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang with total 60 respondents. The samples were divided into 2 groups; group I treated with tabata workout, while group II is control group. The treatment were performed 3 times a week for 2 weeks. This research used a Bioelectric Impedance Analysis to measure the body fat percentage of the samples. The data analysis used paired T test. Result : Paired T test in group I was p = 0,000 (p < 0,05) and group II was p = 0,000 (p < 0,05), indicating that the tabata workout influenced the decrease of body fat percentage. Conclusion : There is an influence of tabata workout on decrease the body fat percentage of physiotherapy student in University of Muhammadiyah Malang with overweight BMI category.
