- Writing skill is a personal ability to communicate in the way of writing some kinds of information, or ideas. Besides, it has an important role and it will influence the message in communication sent by the writer. For the English Foreign Language students, writing is one of very complex skills. Then it is possible that students face many problems in learning second language writing. One of the problems is the less of reading activity. To expand the knowledge, the students need to gain wide information by having a good reading habits. The purpose of this study is to test whether the reading habits play big influence to students’ writing achievement in the Fifth Semester of English Language Education Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The variable of this research is Reading Habits as Independent Variable and Writing Achievement as Dependent Variable. This present research is correlational to see the degree of correlation between those two variables. The method used in this research is correlation study in quantitative approach. The number of the respondents of this research is 30 students of English Language Education Department of UMM. The instrument used in this research is questionnaire to measure the reading habits, and students’ transcripts to measure writing achievement. The data that already collected by the researcher were analyzed using Correlation test in SPSS version 21. Based on the data analyzed, the researcher found that there is a positive correlation between Students’ Reading Habits and Students’ Writing Ability (r=0.182) with the interpretation is very weak. It means that there is a correlation between both variables, yet the degree is very low. The signification of the result is no significant because p<0.05 (0.336<0.05) which means that there is no significant of those two variable.
