  • In modern protection system, protection relay with good selective ability is very needed to achieve high system reliability because with a fast and precise security capability it can isolate the interference as soon as possible in order the good system will be able to operate normally. On the implementation in the field, often occurs the false coordination because it is very difficult to determine the right relays setting value. Therefore, it needs a method that can search the optimal value of parameters overcurrent relay. This research is proposed using the Modified Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm to determine the relays setting value. Result of this research time dial setting (TDS) value, the flow of settings on the secondary side and relay time operation (Top). Between the main and the backup relay work in the Coordination Time Interval (CTI) that appropriate to the IEEE 242 - 2001 standard 0.2 - 0.4 seconds. The Modified Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm can be used effectively to obtain an optimal relays setting value.
