PENGARUH LATIHAN RELAKSASI PROGRESIF TERHADAP PENURUNAN TINGKAT INSOMNIA PADA LANJUT USIA DI PANTI JOMPO MALANG

- Background: Elderly was a continuance process of life which would be experienced by everyone and it was not a disease. Every elderly people would experience aging process which was natural. This process would be followed by a decreasing physical condition through the decreasing organ function such as susceptible to disease. Along with the aging process, the body would experience various health problems or commonly called degenerative diseases. One of degenerative diseases suffered by elderly people was sleep disorder. Sleep disorder had a distinctive characteristic due to its appearance was simultaneously to the declining body function resulted from aging and it interfered the daily activities. Insomnia as a sleep disorder was a state with a disruption in starting and maintaining the quality of sleep patterns among elderly people. One of treatments to insomnia was progressive relaxation exercise. This exercise was one of muscle relaxation techniques which was able to overcome insomnia. Progressive muscle relaxation techniques used a tense muscle activity then decreased the tension by performing a relaxation motion. Objective: To analyze the effect of progressive relaxation exercise to the decreasing insomnia level of elderly in Malang nursing home. Research Method: The research design was one group pre-test post-test design. The population in this research was the elderly people in Malang nursing home. The total samples were 30 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Result: The result by a statistical analysis through Wilcoxon test was P = 0.000 < α = 0.05. It was concluded that Ha was accepted so that there was effects of progressive relaxation exercise on the decreasing insomnia level of elderly people in Malang nursing home. Conclusion: There was an effect of progressive relaxation exercise on the decreasing insomnia level of elderly people in Malang nursing home.
