  • This research focused on investigating the teaching media used by the teachers in teaching English at SMPN 3 Batu. The aims of this research were: (1) to describe the teaching media the teachers used in teaching English; (2) to describe the problems the teachers faced in implementing the teaching media in teaching English; and (3) to describe the way the teachers coped with the problems in implementing the teaching media in teaching English. The method used in this research was a descriptive qualitative research design as the appropriate way to analyze and obtain specific information about the opinions and behaviors of particular subjects. The subjects of this research were three teachers who taught the first grade students at SMPN 3 Batu. This research used interview guide and observation field note as the instruments for collecting the data. The research findings showed that there were two kinds of teaching media used by the teachers, namely multimedia and visual media. The problems faced by the teachers in implementing the teaching media were lack of multimedia facility in the school, the use of uninteresting teaching media, lack of students’ visibility in the class and students’ less spirit in learning activity. Furthermore, the teachers had four solutions to cope with the problems, namely: (1) the teachers decided to use another teaching media, (2) the teachers created interesting media to teach English, (3) the teachers explaining again in more clearly to the students and (4) the teachers always giving motivation to the students.
