- Parasitic disorder that is often encountered in catfish farming activities is Trichodina sp. that infects the seeds of catfish and cause Trichodiniasis. The treatment process tends to use chemical antibiotics when the use of antibiotics made from natural proved effective and safer for the environment and humans. Jamaican cherry leaves as one type of plant that is antimicrobial because it contains compounds tannin, flavonoids, steroids and saponins that have the potential as a natural remedy in curing Trichodiniasis. The research was conducted on May-June 2017 at Fishery Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture-Animal Husbandry and Chemical Laboratory of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The purpose of this research is to know the effect of giving kersen leaf extract (Muntingia calabura) to the syntax and prevalence of catfish (Clarias sp.) Which is attacked by parasite Trichodina sp., and to know the more suitable treatment concentration. The method used in this research was experimental method and Randomized Complete Design (RAL) 1 factor with 5 treatment levels (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%) and 4 replications. The data obtained were analyzed using diversity analysis (ANAVA), if there was a difference of treatment effect of BNT advanced test with 5% real level. The results showed that jamaican cherry leaves extract used contained flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids so as to decrease the prevalence percentage value between pre and post treatment. However, the prevalence analysis of prevalence between pre and post-treatment showed no significant difference, whereas the analysis of saturation variation showed very different result. The best percentage of percentage of stability is obtained at P1 (1% concentration) that is 70%. Clinical symptoms shown during the study include injury to the body, secreted mucus, abnormal swimming and decreased appetite. The average result of water quality measurement (pH, DO and temperature) of all treatments was in the normal range of pH 7.06; DO 5.94 mg/L; temperature 25,13 °C. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that leaf extract of kersen can be used as an antimicrobial natural material to inhibit the death of catfish seeds stricken with Trichodiniasis disease with optimal dose at 1% concentration.
