  • Schools have an important role in fostering a culture of literacy in learners. The establishment of a school literacy culture strongly supports the development of children to be fond of reading, which can increase skills according to education level, without the exception of the school with the Boarding school system such as SMP Tazkia IIBS Malang. Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS) or School Literation Movement is a new innovation from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) in 2015 by the aim of preparing the next generation that is literate through the culture of reading and writing. It is based on the ability to read and write of Indonesian society is still lacking, it can be proved by the results of the survey of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and from Progress in International Reading Literacy Study PIRLS. Based on the aforementioned statement, two research problems are formulated (1) How are the implementation of School Literacy Movement or (GLS) at SMP TAZKIA IIBS Malang? (2) How are the students’ writing creativity at SMP TAZKIA IIBS Malang in doing literacy? The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data in this research is the implementation of GLS and learners’ writing creativity, otherwise the source of data was obtained from the observation and interview done by the researcher to the Principal, Vice principal, Student affair, Teacher and Student. The data was obtained through several steps, those are (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data presentation, and (4) conclusions. From some of these processes, the process of learners’ creative writing were found in the implementation of GLS at the recognition, development and learning step. From the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that in the implementation of School Literacy Movement (GLS) in SMP Tazkia IIBS Malang found some activities in three stages of GLS implementation, these are (1) reading habituation stage, 10 minutes before the learning begins or called Supervised Reading Time (SRT), compulsory visit to the library / library corner, (2) development stage includes the enrichment journal / SRT, the paperwork of class of interest, managing classroom wall magazines, (3) the learning stage includes the whole combination at the stage of habituation and learning activities and produce a product of writing and achievement of the writing activities. The students’ writing creativity is through writing essays regularly, short stories, reviews and poems and then included in the competition and achieves good achievements in regional, national up to international.
