  • This study examines the representation of feminism symbols on films titled Fifty Shades of Gray series I and II. This film is a romantic drama that tells the story of the struggle of a woman who is almost trapped in discrimination and exploitation of sexual slavery by male patriarchal patriarchy in a liberal and contemporary country to realize the right of gender equality. The purpose of this research is to know the representation of feminism in the film Fifty Shades of Gray. The method used in this research is qualitative with the type of intepretatif and basic research Roland Barthes semiotics. Scope of research that is, 26 scenes that become the object under study and represent the existence of representation of symbol of feminism. The data collection is done by documenting the film, classifying scene scene containing the meaning of symbol of feminism and supported by some document and literature study. Analytical technique used is semiotics analysis Roland Barthes, which in the analysis of data interpreted into three stages of denotation meanings, meaning connotations, and myths. Based on the results of the research conducted, shows that the representation of feminism symbols contained in the film Fifty Shades of Gray is portrayed in the struggle of women's main character to realize the same dignity and freedom to control the body and life by changing the attitude of a man who wants a contractual relationship of sexual slavery become a figure trying to apply for a female character. In the series of this film, the element of feminism is not so highlighted, but the serie II feminism began to be seen. The conclusion of this research is the successful struggle of the main character of women to get the right to control the body and equal social status from a slave to a lover. In its efforts to realize gender equality. Suggestions in this research for subsequent research to use the theme of other studies to increase the study of semiotics by students of communication science.
