  • Modeling industry related to fashion and showbiz industry is one of many face of the modernity, those industries are the center of modern people’s life style. At this time, people’s mindset has been constructed to follow the specific meaning toward body that created by the industry. The body construction. at this point, is grown up in line with science contstruction and there is a uniformized definition, especially for the women’s body, therefore there is an ideal body standard which is emerged for women models. In order to continue to exist in modeling industry, the woman models should do the body arrangement that has been set before. The question research of this study is how the model’s body experience as a representation of modern women. This study used phenomenological methods and has been analyzed using the phenomenological theory by Alfred Schutz and power relatiom theory by Michel Foucault. The results show that the model body as a representation of modern women has experienced the process of values internalization which is produced by the disciplinary regime. The internalization process is given by the agency or modeling school toward the models from a young age, which requires models to have ideal bodies in accordance with applicable standards. Such internalization can easily occur because the career development of the models are in stake regarding to the agency appraisal. This has led the models to undergo a series of training process, consciously and voluntarily, such as diet, exercise, and beauty treatment so that the models can maintain their careers. For the models, doing all the body training process to get the ideal body is not a burden, but as a form of responsibility and professionalism for their careers.
