- Salak (Salacca Zalacca) is one of many kinds of fruit plants in Indonesia. But the fruit is the only part which has economic value. A few research had been done to develop the use of salak in the field of engineering. Salak frond fiber can be used for natural fiber in composite technology. This research aimed to obtain optimum results of the composition between a mixture of Snake Fruit (Salacca Zalacca) fiber with polyester resin. The method used is by defibrilled salak frond and molded it into size according to the standard used. Testing on this research used an impact and tensile testing machine to determine Impact Strength, Modulus Young, and Tensile Strength of the material. The tensile testing specimen are based on ASTM D638-02-a standard and The impact testing specimen are based on ASTM D6110-04. The result that obtained in this research is, the maximum Impact Strength is obtained at 0.146 J/mm2on 60% fiber content. The maximum Modulus Young is obtained at 112,1165 Kg/mm2 on 80% fiber content. Whereas the maximum Tensile Strength is obtained at 32.75 (N/mm2) on 90% fiber content.
