  • This research aims to describe the problem solving ability of mathematics based on SOLO Taxonomy on algebraic material. This research applied descriptive qualitative approach. This research was conducted on March 2018. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII-E (seventh grade) at public junior high school 12 Malang consisting of 29 students, then the 29 students were selected only 5 learners in order to determine the ability of the learners in solving problems at certain level. The instrument used is an test sheet and interview guideline sheet. Technique of collecting the data was the result of response or answer and also interview result from the learners. The data analysis technique used was the triangulation of data collection technique. The research result of solving mathematical problem based on SOLO taxonomy on algebra material, which the data collecting technique was using 5 students is: one learner represents prestructural level, one learner represents unistructural level, one learner represents multistructural level, one learner represents relational level, and one participant students represent the extended abstract level. The test results revealed that subjects at the prestructural level were 4 students, unistructural level were 5 students, multistructural level of 6 students, relational level of 12 students, and extended abstract level of 2 students.
