  • Ability to maintain voltage and ensure the stability of the generator is a requirement in operating the power system. To meet these requirements, the development of an excitation control system for synchronous generators is a viable solution. However, the generator is faced with the problem of the presence of a non-linear load that changes. So, the purpose of this study is to design a control system that is able to maintain the stability of the output voltage of the generator when there are nonlinear loads that change. From these problems, the design study of the PSO optimization control system as a tuning on the PID to control the excitation voltage of the PLTMH generator. The type of generator used is a synchronous generator with a maximum output power of 128 Kw, while for the study design the load is simulated using linear and nonlinear linear loads. For design design using simulink on matlab application. Based on the simulation results, the result of PSO optimization on PID when linear load got steady state time 6.6% and when nonlinear load 20% faster than PID control. For error tagging when linear load is 2.02% and when nonlinear load is 2.34%. From the test results obtained PSO - PID control is better in achieving steady state time and lower error voltage values.
