- Abbreviation is a process of dismantlement one or several lexemes that display as a word without any changing of meaning. The new language form that produced from shortened process. Abbreviation also constructs a word, so as to make a new form and role as a word. The utilization of language variety or language innovation that is made by teenager is the purpose of becoming new identity between one group and another group separately. In this study, social media Facebook and BBM as objects due to the number of available social media is increasing currently, as a result the users especially teenagers are growing too. Based on that reason, the statement of problems in this study are (1) How is the form of language abbreviation that the teenagers use in social media Facebook and BBM and (2) How is the pattern’s form of language abbreviation that the teenagers use in social media Facebook and BBM. This study method employed descriptive qualitative analysis method. The study applied Uninvolved Conversation Observation Technique [Teknik Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC)] as data collecting technique and it is combined with Writing Technique (Teknik Catat). In this study, the data sources are from social media Facebook, BBM, and data form of word in a language that exist on the status post of Facebook and BBM’s users. The data, which have been found, were processing through several stages, as follow 1) data collection, 2) data classification, 3) putting data into table, and 4) data interpretation according to the statement of problem and the data conclusion. Based on the processes, some forms of teenager’s language abbreviation and pattern of form that contained on the status post from social media Facebook and BBM were identified. From the analysis and discussion result, it can be concluded that abbreviation form and pattern of abbreviation form by teenager in social media Facebook and BBM have been found. The researcher discovered three forms of abbreviation form, which are contraction, acronym, and symbol of letters. Moreover, the researcher also detected three form pattern of abbreviation form pattern in social media Facebook and BBM, which are contraction, acronym, and symbol of letters. Pattern form of contraction abbreviation is found four form patterns, which are (1) form pattern of contraction based on letter perpetuation in every syllable, (2) form pattern of contraction based on perpetuation of first latter and the last latter on the conjunction, (3) form pattern of abbreviation based on first letter perpetuation of first syllable and first letter and the last letter of second syllable from a word, and (4) form pattern of contraction abbreviation based on first letter perpetuation in every word. In addition, form pattern of acronym abbreviation built based on the combination of first syllable perpetuation in the first word. Meanwhile, abbreviation form pattern of letter symbol created based on form pattern of acronym that arranged based on every first letter perpetuation of one word element.
