  • Chili is one of the plant which has the most important economic value in the world (Bosland, 1996). The area of Cayenne pepper plantation in Indonesia in 2015 reaches 134 thousand ha (BPS, 2015) and is the largest area of vegetable commodity. The use of local and derived seeds in the process of cayenne pepper cultivation is still widely found among local farmers, for example, chili pepper farmers in the district of Poncokusumo. Because of these trends, this study aims to obtain information about the morphological character of 16 genotypes of cayenne plants from Poncokusumo which includes qualitative characters and quantitative characters. This research was conducted in Desa Belung, Kec. Poncokusumo in July 2017 to January 2018 with planting the 16 genotype of cayenne plants from Kec. Poncokusumo. The activities in this research are morphological character observation and obtaining quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), the software used is SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and qualitative data using cluster analysis with Minitab 16 software. The result of the research shows that there are 5 similar qualitative characters, that is the color of stem, rod shape, stem fur, leaf fur and color of mature fruit, while cluster analysis on 17 different qualitative characters obtained 2 groups with 19.55% similarity value. The most similar genotypes (83.89%) were CRP3 and CRP4. The most variant genotypes are CRP3 and CRP4 with CRP11 and CRP16. Statistical analysis of 12 quantitative characters showed significant differences between 16 genotypes of Cayenne pepper from Poncokusumo. The heritability value of the 12 quantitative characters ranged from 52.58% (weighted character per fruit) to 99.81% (harvest age characters).
