  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the reasoning process and problem solving ability of SMP students' mathematics toward SQ4R-aided model of scientific module and open-ended problem. This research uses qualitative approach and this research type is descriptive. Subjects in this study were students of class VIII B SMP Negeri 1 Baureno in the even semester of the academic year 2017/2018 which amounted to 30 students. Data collection methods used in this study are tests and interviews. The results showed that: The overall reasoning process of students based on the stages of estimating the process of completion of 84.62%; stage using patterns and relationships to analyze the mathematical situation of 80.62%; the stage of formulating a valid argument by using a systematic step of 79.79% and the stage drawing a logical conclusion of 79.79%. and overall problem solving abilities based on the stages of understanding the problem of 92.08%; plan a breakdown of 89.58%; stage of resolving plan is 85,83% and check back equal to 76,66%.
