- This study was conducted to answer the research questions posed: 1) How IPA students error’s in solving open ended problem using by analysis Newman error?; 2) How IPS students error’s in solving open ended problem using by analysis Newman error? Categorize of this study is qualitative descriptive research. The Subject of this research is X MIPA 3 and X IPS 1 students of MAN Kota Batu. Collecting data using test, interview sheet and documentation. The test is given only once wich aims to find out the results of the answers of students who will be selected six students from each major. So, there are twelve subjects in this research. The next step is interviewing the twelve subjects to find out more about the errors that have been made by the subject. Based on data analysis, conclusions of this research are 1) IPA students errors are reading error, comprehension error, tramsformation error, procces skill error, encoding error; 2) IPS students errors are reading error, comprehension error, tramsformation error, procces skill error, encoding error.
